Privacy, in plain English

YawningFox makes bedtime stories for children, so we hold ourselves to the UK GDPR and the ICO Children’s Code. The short version: we collect as little as possible, we never sell data, and you can delete everything yourself.
1. Who the data controller is
YawningFox is operated by WAMMA LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17187505), registered office 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. WAMMA LTD is the data controller for the personal data described here and is registered with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
For anything about your data — a copy of it, a correction, or its deletion — email yawningfox@wamma.io. You also have the right to complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
2. Who holds the account
Accounts are for adults — parents and guardians aged 18 or over. Children never hold accounts and never sign in. You confirm you are 18+ when you sign up.
3. What we collect about your child — and what we deliberately don't
To personalise stories we ask only for a first name or nickname, an age, and optional interests (dinosaurs, space, football…). That’s it.
We never ask for your child’s surname, school, location, or birthday. Please don’t put those in story prompts or character descriptions either — the stories don’t need them.
4. What we collect about you
Your email address (to sign you in and tell you when a story is ready), your name if you give it, your timezone (so daily story quotas reset at your midnight), and — if you subscribe — billing details held by Stripe, our payment provider. We never see your card number.
5. Photos for illustrated characters
When storybook illustrations launch, you will be able to upload one photo to base a character’s cartoon appearance on. We designed this deliberately carefully:
- The photo is analysed once to write a short, neutral appearance description (hair colour, glasses, favourite jumper colour) that you can read and edit.
- Illustrations are always generated from a cartoon reference sheet made from that description — never from the photo itself, and never aiming for a realistic likeness.
- The original photo is deleted within 24 hours of processing unless you explicitly choose to keep it, and you can delete a character and its photo with one click in Settings at any time.
- We ask for your explicit consent at upload, in plain language, and keep a record of it. We will only ship this feature once we have verified in writing that the AI providers involved do not retain or train on the data we send.
6. Where your stories live
Story text, audio and images are stored privately and served over time-limited signed links. Stories stay in your library for as long as your account exists. Deleting a story moves it to a recoverable state for 30 days, then it is gone for good.
7. Deleting everything
You can delete your whole account yourself in Settings — no email required, no retention dark patterns. Deletion cascades to every child profile, character, story, audio file and image within 30 days.
8. AI providers
Stories are written, narrated and illustrated by third-party AI services. We send them only what a story needs (the prompt, first name, age, interests, character descriptions) and we document each provider’s data-retention terms before using it.
